crème fraîche
trelvix:
I was in one of the square states today.
I needed crème fraîche.
I don’t think I should talk about this right now.
sometimes there’s just too much awesome to be contained in a simple reblog, but that’s all I had to work with.

I have a hankerin'
for felafel and pickled turnips. As you do.
Correction:
not the new Iron and Wine, Kiss Each Other Clean, which I did not purchase because I listened to the samples and what the hell?
It’s the last album, Our Endless Numbered Days, which is new to me and just the perfect tone for my state of mind right now, contemplating the fact that I just said yes to going back to work 20 hours a week freelance, in-house, for the company where I last had a...
Remember how I fell down the stairs yesterday?
Just be glad I’m not posting a photo of my right ass cheek in all of its black, purple, blue, green, and yellow glory.
I asked Chris to pick me up a good bottle of red wine on his way home last night. I specifically asked that he not spend less than $10 on the bottle because I needed to enjoy something other than Yellow Tail for once. He brought home two bottles ($14 each) and we drank the...
I hate to break it to you people,
joeschmitt:
but we’re all listed in Tumblweeds under #overcapacity, #offlineformaintenance, and #pleasebepatient. All the other directories don’t matter.
Huh. I’m listed under #incrediblysorry.
Everything is more beautiful because we’re doomed. You will never be lovelier...

The guy's on his way to tune my piano.
No, really. Not a euphemism.
Wow.
My beloved Boston is looking kinda Minnesota.

New short fiction
over at my Shorpy Shorts tumblr.
If you haven’t seen this before, I’m writing very short fiction inspired by photos from Shorpy Historic Photo Archive. I’d love for you to follow.
I tried to reblog the post, but it won’t let me. Anybody else having trouble reblogging from a blog page instead of the dashboard? The page dies every time.

Lazy Kelly is lazy
When Lila’s carpool arrived this morning, they were dropping off something I’d ordered, so I stepped outside to grab it. The front steps haven’t been shoveled, for some reason (lazy, lazy, and lazy) and I was wearing my slippers, which apparently don’t have much traction. The snow was packed down where Lila has walked on it on her way out in the mornings, and a thick layer...
I lost an inch
I used to be 6’ tall, but years of desk work have compacted my spine a whole inch. Yoga sure feels good, but I doubt it will give me that nice round number back.
When I first got to NYC back in 1989, I fell for a guy I waited tables with at this bistro next to City Center. He was hilarious and energetic – an actor, of course – and 5’3”. Somehow we fit for a while, but we did get...

I may not be getting that newsletter put together, but I’m clearing out some head space.
The purge continues
Greader done. Now working on the 5K messages in my gmail.
YOU GUYS?! Remember Google Wave?!
Truthful Tuesday 2.0
I did a massive Twitter purge, unfollowing about 2/3 of my list. Most of the meaningful interactions I once had on Twitter are now a bigger part of my virtual reality here on tumblr. I like the longer form for blowing off steam and connecting with people on a personal level. I’m going to get back to using Twitter but in a topical way that’s more about positivity brain farts and sharing...
Amber Case TED talk on cyborg anthropology – relevant to my earlier post about my internet addiction.

Truthful Tuesday
I am overwhelmed with my digital life and am afraid it’s replacing much too much of my corporeal life.
It’s time to whittle and to focus on things beyond the monitor screen.
I’m addicted, though, and I know it’s not going to be easy.
New Parks and Recreation
in my Hulu queue.
Shut up. I have something in my eye.

Seven riding my last nerve
I’m hopeful that she’s getting her sassiness and defiance and nasty attitude out of the way now, so we can live in relative harmony when she’s a teenager.
Maybe hopeful isn’t the right word.
Delusional?
Overcome and in a swoon
Finishing Steel Magnolias in bed and suffering from wine, hot water, and big hair-induced palpitations. Remind me to post some pics of my ’80s great wall of hair tomorrow.
Sea salt baths are soooooo relaxing.
Lord, I love Dolly Parton.

I did it.
With maybe 3 minutes to spare, I got the damnblam grant application submitted to the Ohio Environmental Education Fund/EPA. Their software is so ancient and unruly, which caused me to waste at least two hours of valuable time this afternoon, but I got it done.
I GOT IT DONE.
If we get approved, that’s $40K for us to work with a dozen schools in northeast Ohio setting up composting bins,...

MLK Day
bananacasts:
Once upon a time, a father and husband, flawed as the rest of us, was murdered because he never hesitated to speak his conscience and for those who thought they lacked a voice.

Saturday snippets
My nose keeps whistling and it sounds like a cat out on the front porch crying to get in. I’ve gotten up to look out the window five times even though I know it’s just my nose.
My brother took us out to dinner last night and I had two drinks after not drinking anything for weeks. My head hurts.
Gmail is being such a little wuss the last few days.
Tumblr won’t let me look at...
I must be following all the right people
who don’t reblog penis or something, because my dash is naked mole rat-free.
doublejack:
Um, okay! Here are the instructions for “…a collaborative project surrounding Kelly’s brilliant idea to do a video of all of us being awesome during what Mike declared as our theme song for 2011? We each do a brief segment of ourselves in 2011 and submit it to the editor by a certain date and they mash it up to the song and we all reblog it more than that naked mole rat penis.”

and my kid cries like that
every time we have to comb her hair out. Her hair is very prone to locking, and she refuses to have it cut short, and she has very dry skin so we don’t make her shower every day, but three will go by and her hair is a wreck. Tons of conditioner and a very long, mostly-patient* combing process takes care of it, but she’s very dramatic about it. I’m thinking if I ever tried – in...
My face hurts
because I just watched that horrible video of the little girl having her eyebrows forcibly waxed so she can compete in a beauty pageant and I think my face might stay in this horrified, enraged expression forever because what the everloving UGH.
DAMMIT JACK HOLT
I love you.
